Support Tenants on Rent Strike

Since July 2023, tenants at 22 John Street in Toronto have been on rent strike against corporate landlord Dream Unlimited due to yearly rent increases of 9% to 10%, which far exceed the cost of living. These units are not subject to rent control, and the upcoming hearings with the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) on September 16, 17 & 18 will be crucial in determining whether rent caps should apply to non rent-controlled buildings.
Tenants are calling on supporters to tune in to the LTB hearings for any portion of time between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM each day to show solidarity. Even a few minutes of listening during a break can make a significant impact, as the more people watch, the more public pressure the Board members will feel.
