Decades of funding cuts have hollowed out public services at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels. Many have been privatized or are in the process of being privatized. As a result:
• The quality of public services is declining.
• Public-sector workers are grossly underpaid and severely overworked.
• The cost of living is rising as individuals are forced to pay for education, medical care, housing, and transportation – or go without.
• The general standard of living falls.
PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS FIGHT FOR US!
Workers in education, health-care, LCBO, the post office, and transportation are fighting for fully funded, well-staffed, quality public services that everyone can use. The more their working conditions improve, the better our services become.
Instead of funding the programs we need, governments blame immigrants who, in reality, have the least access to these services.
FACT: There is plenty of money to fully fund ALL social programs so EVERYONE has access.
INSTEAD: Canada is investing $73 billion over the next 20 years to beef up its military. This figure does not include $38.6 billion pledged to NORAD over the next 20 years or the billions of public dollars spent to support foreign wars.
Our own City of Guelph spends more than twice as much on the police than it spends on public transit.
Join us to discuss what's going on and how we can support public-sector workers to put people’s needs first.
