U.S. President Trump is determined to absorb Canada into the United States, saying "This would make all tariffs disappear, the artificial line of separation will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World."
Trump's threat to annex Canada has boosted Canadian nationalism. Most Canadians don’t want to join the United States with its rampant gun violence, high rate of imprisonment, and appalling lack of social support.
Some question if 50 years of building a global economy can be reversed. They warn that retreating behind national borders will deepen global inequalities, make it impossible to solve global problems, and increase the threat of war.
Others say the solution is internationalism, that we should abolish national borders and build a truly global economy managed by all the world’s people for everyone’s benefit.
