“Class Dismissed: How TV Frames the Working Class” (2005) is a 1-hour documentary showing how television falsely portrays working-class people as clowns, ignorant slobs, or criminals who don’t deserve a better life.
These negative stereotypes shape public attitudes, and many workers internalize this stigma.
Rejecting the label “working class” undermines workers’ sense of belonging to a socially powerful class with a right to far more of the wealth they produce.
The film features clips of popular TV shows along with commentary from media analysts and cultural historians.
The 1-hour film will be followed by discussion.
