For decades, workers’ living standards have been falling as employers cut wages and benefits, downsize, automate, contract out, block unions, and force us to work longer and harder for less.
Workers have had enough and are fighting back. Striking says, “Our needs matter more than your profits!” Strikes cause a social crisis that can only be resolved when one side backs down.
Canada’s Supreme Court has affirmed the right to strike, so why do unions and strikers face heavy fines and even jail time for exercising their legal right to strike? And why do governments force strikers back to work instead of making bosses meet workers’ demands?
