The Guelph police budget is the city’s single largest expense. It is 50 percent larger than the social services budget, and 14 times larger than the budget for public health.
The mayor of Peel called the city’s escalating police budget “out of control,” saying the requested increase in the police budget on its own could fund the city’s entire fire department.
