PRIDE (2014) is based on the true story of how gay and lesbian activists in the U.K. organized support for the 1984 British miners' strike and how both groups were transformed in the process.
The alliance between the LGBTQ+ community and British labour groups marked a turning point in the fight for queer rights.
Miners began to support and participate in PRIDE events throughout the UK. In 1985, miners led London's Lesbian and Gay Pride parade. That same year, the National Union of
Mineworkers pushed the British Labour Party to officially support LGBTQ+ rights.
PRIDE was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture (Comedy) and the BAFTA for Best British Film and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Imelda Staunton, and for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer.
Donβt miss this inspiring and hilarious film!
