Join us for a solidarity outreach blitz! Workers at Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) have been forced out on strike for more than 8 weeks.
These workers, members of CUPE 2073, provide critical supports for Ontarioβs Deaf, Deaf/blind, and hard of hearing communities.
While CEO Julia Dumanian now takes home more than $340,000 a year, workers have experienced a 16% real dollar wage cut as a result of wage freezes and dramatic increases in the cost of living.
Because wages have fallen so far behind, there is a staffing crisis at CHS: the number of employees has fallen from about 450 to about 200 today. For the people who depend on these important services, it means longer wait times for assessments and treatment. When interpreters are overbooked and employment consultants have overwhelming caseloads these hard-working staff canβt meaningfully help Deaf, Deaf/blind, and hard of hearing people.
Your support is crucial for a just resolution for workers and the people they serve.
