What do truck drivers, gig workers, and many other non-union workers have in common with Air Canada workers? Like so many of us, Air Canada workers are not paid for the hours they actually work!
Join us on Wednesday, August 20, for this emergency action to call on our elected representatives to stop interfering with workers' rights to fight for decent work and to stop wage theft for Air Canada workers - and all workers!
Did you know: flight attendants in Canada work for an average of 35 hours for free every month? That's because Air Canada has been refusing to pay flight attendants for duties like assisting passengers with boarding, pre-flight safety checks, deplaning, and other delays – even though they’re on the job, in uniform, and taking responsibility for the safety and well-being of their passengers!
The good news is: Air Canada workers, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, are fighting back to say STOP WAGE THEFT.
The bad news is: Prime Minister Mark Carney and federal Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu are siding with the employer and have issued an order to send flight attendants back to work without fair wages and without making Air Canada stop stealing workers' wages.
That's why these brave workers have decided to defy the Minister's order and have not gone back to work. As they said clearly: "If we are forced to fly, we will not comply!"
If Air Canada workers win, it will make it easier for us to win changes in legislation to protect all workers federally and provincially.
