CANCELLED due to excessive heat: Movie Night: Pride (2014)

Guelph

7:00 pm
42 Carden St
Guelph, ON N1H 3A2
Canada

It is deeply disappointing that we have to cancel this event. The venue at 42 Carden had to shut off the AC in order to fix a leak in the roof. It's currently 30 degrees on the 4th floor, and it would get much hotter with a room full of people. We could not find an alternate venue that is air-conditioned. We plan to show this film at a later date and will let you know.

Pride (2014) is based on the true story of how the gay liberation movement organized support for the 1984 British miners' strike and how both groups were transformed in the process.

The alliances forged between the LGBTQ+ community and British labour groups marked a turning point in the fight for queer rights. Miners began to support, endorse and participate in various pride events throughout the UK, including leading London's Lesbian and Gay Pride parade in 1985. That same year, the National Union of Mineworkers pushed the British Labour Party to officially support LGBTQ+ rights.

Pride was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and for the BAFTA for Best British Film, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Imelda Staunton and for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
