Canada functions as an imperial/colonial power in Latin America. Canadian corporations extract natural resources, keep wages low, suppress strikes, and counter Indigenous opposition to environmental destruction – the same things they do here.
Canadian workers do not benefit from the oppression of Latin American workers. All workers suffer impoverished living conditions to boost the profits of the corporations that oppress them.
Latin American workers can teach us something about fighting back, international worker solidarity, and the importance of connecting workers' struggles with anti-colonial ones.
